My solo exhibition The Cull (You Are Not Welcome Here) calls attention to the arbitrary distinctions we draw between the species that live among us, when we declare some beautiful and noteworthy and dismiss others as disease-ridden or pests. In the work, animals are clustered together and bursting from the rigid shapes we attempt to confine them to, or laid out grid-like in death, identities erased, reduced to numbers to exterminate.
The show included gouache & watercolor paintings, large scale line drawings, and experimental sun-printed pieces using cyanotype and natural dyes on found papers and textiles. The concepts are further explored in an art zine released in tandem with the show.
